SUMMER SEASON TICKETS NOW ON SALE
Be part of the live audience Thursday, August 9th as the Maine Public Broadcasting Network (MPBN) broadcasts our Opening Night concert via radio from the Abromson Center recording booth! World-famous classical guitarist David Leisner and Grammy-nominated soprano Tony Arnold make their PCMF debuts alongside eight returning festival colleagues. Saturday, August 11th features the Schubert “Cello” Quintet — one of the great masterpieces of the chamber music literature. The Hikari Trio makes its first appearance at PCMF Thursday, August 16th in a performance of Michael Alec Rose’s touching Piano Trio. Our 19th Season concludes Saturday, August 18th with Copland’s ballet, “Appalachian Spring” in its chamber version for 13 instruments. For families, join us at our annual Free Family Fun Day Sunday, August 12th!

Listen: Live Broadcast of Opening Night 2011The Portland Chamber Music Festival’s August 11th Opening Night Concert was broadcast live on MPBN – Maine’s public radio network. The concert included the Sonata for Two Violins in C major of Leclair, “On Wenlock Edge” for Tenor, Piano, and String Quartet by Vaughan Williams, and the Octet, Op. 20, of Mendelssohn.

Schubert’s great masterpiece, the C major “Cello” Quintet, highlights our first Saturday night program. The evening also features the song cycle Letters from Composers, Dominick Argento’s setting of texts from letters of Bach, Mozart, Puccini, Chopin, and others. |
